Dr. Reva Barewal received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1992 at the University of Toronto. In 1999 she received her specialty training in Prosthodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed her Masters of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences. She was given the John Sharry Award by the ACP, and Integrated Tissue Prosthesis award by Astra Tech for her pioneering work on implant stability measurement during the early healing period. With experience gained from dentistry, clinical research and a former career in the French Culinary Arts, she developed a company, Taste For Life, LLC that provides unique solutions to improve the dining experience for those with dysphagia and chewing difficulties. She is solely focused on creating evidence based, innovative products addressing the need for a more person-centered approach to dining enjoyment and nutritional health in the presence of eating and swallowing difficulties. She has a passion for education and collaboration across disciplines and has published several articles in the field of implant dentistry, sleep apnea, and oropharyngeal dysphagia.
She holds an appointment in the Department of Pulmonology and Critical Care at Oregon Health and Science University, and is a member of PEERS NA, ACP, AO, AADSM and is on a volunteer board with the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative. Her focus is on improving understanding of oral processing of food with loss of masticatory function and the impact on dysphagia, cognition, psychosocial wellbeing and nutritional health.
